The day to day life as an Education Volunteer constantly changes. Unlike primary schools aka elementary schools, my school day to day schedule changes. Some days I teach for one hour and others about three hours. Here’s an example of my typical Wednesday schedule.
6:15am: Wake up and prepare myself for the day (buck bath, brush teeth, eat breakfast, 15 mins meditation, and get dressed)
7:25am: Walk to school. The school is located about 200m from my home.
7:30am: Arrive at school and prep for English
7:50am: School begins. Morning devotions begins. (Mini church as I call it!)
8:00am: English class begins
9:00am: English class ends
9:00am-10:00am: Meeting, lesson planning, or completing a computer literacy class for Grade 7
10:00am-10:45: Lunch Break
10:45am-12:50pm: Planning (lesson, secondary projects, meeting, etc)
12:50pm – 2:20pm: Life Skills (Physical Education section)
2:20pm-2:50pm: Quick practice on Spelling Bee words with Grade 5 learners
2:50pm: Go home
3:00pm-5:00pm: Relax (I.e. watch movies, read a book, walk around the village, or hang out with my host family)
5:00pm-6:00pm: Workout (Turbo Fire/ Running around the village with some women)
6:00pm: Eat, bath and Relax
Around 7:00pm/7:15pm: While watching a movie, plan activity for Personal and Social Well-Being class for Grade 5 that’s the next day
8:30pm/9:00pm: Bed time! I’ve been sleeping very early lately. Maybe because it’s winter now haha!
It’s a simple day, but some days are more complex because of meetings about secondary projects in the village with my counterpart or meeting with the Induna about the needs in the village.
The most gorgeous Peace Corps Volunteer ever. You look great.
I enjoy following your blog. Thanks for sharing your journey.
